Exploring Innovative Approaches to Addressing Homelessness
The United States is in the midst of a housing affordability crisis that is having a profound impact on homelessness. Addressing this situation will require a reevaluation of existing practices and policies as to the production of affordable housing, as well as an exploration of innovative approaches to addressing homelessness.
The Lotus Campaign’s Housing Innovation Series is being created to stimulate discussion of these issues. Each paper in the series will focus on a single concept related to the production of affordable housing and on how best to address homelessness. It will also evaluate its viability in terms of economics and mission. Issues of cost, benefit, expected impact, suitability, desirability, and obstacles to implementation will be key. A prime consideration for the series will be how and to what extent the private sector can be involved in addressing homelessness.
We would love to hear your thoughts on innovative ways to address homelessness.

Lotus Campaign is a 501(c)(3) that unites real estate leaders, landlords, service providers, and philanthropists to dramatically reduce homelessness.
Our goal is to engage the private sector in opening access to market-rate, mixed-income housing to those experiencing homelessness without government funding or support. This is very different from most current affordable housing options and one of the biggest distinctions in the Lotus model.
Lotus Campaign has facilitated the placement of nearly 500 people, with a 97% success rate of its sponsored residents going on to support themselves. Recognizing that the transition out of homelessness takes time, participation in the Lotus Campaign program provides support to participants for a minimum of one year and longer if needed.
Lotus Campaign currently operates in Charlotte and Raleigh, North Carolina, and its Landlord Participation Program is designed to be replicable and scalable everywhere.
